Abstract

(analytical) The Cerro Navia commune, located in Chile’s capital city, has had historically high levels of rights violations and social inequality. The research study focused on understanding the symbolic explanatory content related to citizenship based on the perspectives of children and young people, seeking to identify how social inequalities impact their sense of citizenship. The study was designed using a qualitative methodology with a descriptive scope, combining Participatory Action Research with ethnography. The results analyse how children understand citizenship, reveal tensions they experience within the territory they inhabit and highlight the possibility of community as an expression of integration.
