| dc.description.abstract | Introduction: This study evaluated the effectiveness of a 15-week physical exercise program based on the model from the Comprehensive Care Center for Obesity and other Non-Communicable Chronic Diseases (CAIO+ in Spanish) of SEK University (USEK). This was designed to improve the physical and psycho-emotional health of university students in the health field who are overweight or obese. Objective: a quasi-experimental design with pre- and post-intervention measurements was used, evaluating changes in body weight, body mass index (BMI), handgrip strength, sleep quality, perceived stress, and quality of life. Methodology: changes in body weight, body mass index (BMI), handgrip strength, sleep quality, perceived stress, and quality of life were assessed through a quasi-experimental design with pre- and post-intervention measurements. Results: results showed significant reductions in weight (-0.34%) and BMI (-0.40%), as well as improvements in muscle strength (+3.58%), sleep quality, and emotional well-being (+16.0%). Discussion: although a control group was not included, the findings suggest that implementing structured exercise programs may be an effective strategy to improve the overall health of university students in the health field. Conclusions: future studies with a control group and longitudinal follow-up are recommended to evaluate the sustainability of the effects over time. | |
